last night i went to sleep and i was dreaming and then my phone rang and i woke up i went back to bed and i started dreaming i was walking down the street and then i kept saying in my head im dreaming im dreaming i know im dreaming, and i made myself start flying, then i dont remeber anything else but i dont know if i dreamed i had a lucid dream or if it was real.
A lucid dream is when you are aware you are dreaming, and you have control over your dreams.
From what it sounds like that was a lucid dream, because you actually were aware of the fact that you were dreaming, and that you were in control, because you just decided to fly ; )
hope that answers your question
I already know how to lucid dream and I do it quite often. I recently left the country I’ve been staying in along with my best friend (who lucid dreams too). The timezone of where I live now is GMT +6 and my friend’s timezone is GMT -5, so we’re quite far apart. I’ve been wondering if I can share a dream with my friend? I’ll manage the sleeping time.
In my dream, I saw my fingers and they were hard to count, and I told myself “I must be dreaming”. I did whatever I wanted for a while, and then I woke up. However, it was a false awakening. So did I have two separate dreams, or a dream within a dream? (Which I believe is possible.)
Most likely two separate dreams. It is said that when you are deep within your REM sleep cycle a person can have several dreams. Depending on what level of consciousness you are in you will ether remember the dream or not. It sounds to me like you were just in a lighter REM sleep than usual, so you remembered two of your dreams.
Are there any thoughts that can make you realize it is a dream or… is there any way to increase the chances of having a lucid dream? Also, since I dream semi-rarely, is there a way to dream more often?
Do you need to be very tired? Moderately tired?
Lucid dreaming is a skill that needs to be acquired with practice, so be prepared to spend many days, months, and even years trying to get it down. I am actually impressed that TF managed to succeed in a mere week, and though that is possible there are people like me where it can take up to and past a year to have your first lucid dream.
As TF stated, a dream journal is a necessity. Don’t shrug it off or get slack with it, this is probably the most effective method of remembering dreams. A dream journal not only greatly boosts your dream recall after even just a few days, but it also helps you find dream signs which can help with lucidity later on.
Ok, so when you wake up in the morning, lie still with your eyes closed. Don’t roll over, don’t move, just lie perfectly still. Try to recall what you were just dreaming about, go through the story in your head and let the memories come back to you. If you try to push the memories, it often can make you lose them along with others, so let them come naturally. When you think you can remember as much as your brain will let you, get up and instantly write down every detail you can remember in your dream journal. Even if you only remember a brief emotion, or perhaps a sound or single image from your dream, write it down to the fullest of detail.
After a few days of this, you should notice a significant boost in dream recall. Keep it up, and you will start remembering up to 5 or so full dreams a night. Also, if possible you want to keep a good steady sleep schedule.
Now as for gaining lucidity while sleeping, there are various techniques. I won’t go into great detail, but I will give you the terms and a brief rundown so you can look them up.
DILD (Dream Induced Lucid Dream) – Known to be the easiest, yet most unpredictable method. The idea is that your habits in real life carry over into the dream state, so you want to start a habit that will somehow let you know when you are dreaming. This habit is known as reality checking, or a reality check. (RC) You are to get in the pattern of performing some function that won’t work in a dream (or will work oddly) thus resulting in success in real life, and failure in the dream letting you know when you are dreaming. An example of a reality check is to plug your nose and breathe in through it. In real life this function will work and you can’t breathe through your nose, but when dreaming your nose in real life is still un-blocked so you should be able to breathe through it even if plugged in the dream.
WILD (Wake Induced Lucid Dream) – The hardest method, yet very stable if conquered. This method requires that you keep your conscious mind awake as your body falls asleep, so you transition from the waking state to a dream consciously. This should be done after a few hours of sleep, usually in the middle of the night. The reason being that the REM cycle (The state in which you have the most vivid and desired dreams) doesn’t start until at least 90 minutes after first falling asleep, and it gets progressively longer through the night. So if you wake up in the middle of the night, after a REM cycle you should have a chance at doing this. The trick is you want to wake up enough to be aware, but not too awake as to prevent you from entering REM again. Then you will want to lie still while keeping your mind active so your body falls asleep and you stay conscious. For many this can be scary because your brain will paralyze your body (Though this happens every night, you will now notice it) and you will see and hear things that aren’t there as you transition into the dream. If you are successful you will be pulled into a dream with full awareness that you are dreaming. This was a very brief rundown, you can find much more info by looking it up on google or at a lucid dreaming forum or website.
WBTB (Wake Back To Bed) – This method can be extremely effective, though it requires waking up in the middle of the night. Like the WILD, you will want to wake up after a REM cycle and get your mind somewhat awake. Unlike the WILD you won’t be falling asleep conscious, but rather will fall asleep completely while constantly telling yourself you are dreaming so that you should still be telling yourself that when you enter the dream state making you aware. There are many variations to this technique that you can look up.
These are 3 basic techniques to acquiring lucid dreams, I suggest you do some research for them, see which you think is best for you (Though I suggest always practicing reality checks) and start practicing. Some good forums that will get you well on your way are:
dreamviews – Very active, helpful userbase, some PG-13, R topics, so good depending on how old the person viewing is.
ld4all – Not as active, but very helpful and friendly users
I hope this helps you get on your way.
How do you have a lucid dream? I have been trying to have one for the past 2 days and I am having difficulties doing it. In my dream, I sometimes get chased by mobs of people and I realized it was just a dream but it was so difficult to just stop. It’s human instinct to run when there is something chasing us and trying to hurt us. So, how do you change your dream environment when you know that you are dreaming? For the story above, do I just stop and think of another place to change the mob scene into that place?
I am a natural lucid, I have been having those dreams probably every other night since I was in second grade. I don’t do anything to cause it but once it happens I just think what I want and it happens!
I was wondering if you could have a dream in which you had a lucid dream, though the dream was so realistic, you thought you had actually had a lucid dream, rather than having a dream about a lucid dream? Also, can you forget a lucid dream?
I thought I phrased it a bit oddly. No wonder you don’t really get the question.
You’re question doesn’t really make much sense, but yes you can forget lucid dreams over time just like any other memory but because in lucid dreams your mind is conscious even though you are asleep, you don’t wake up and forget about it completely. I don’t understand what you were trying to say with the rest of the question so I’m sorry I can’t answer it.
Im an atheist by the way Only rely on logic and evidence. But I also believe there is a never explaining thing called paranormal Could this be one or can you explain it scientifically.
Lucid dreams
Lucid dream is when your dream seems very real and you actually control what you in it. In my lucid dreams I have all my sense well I think so and I have even felt the wind. Nothing out of the usual happens so it makes it seem more real but the weirdest is that I know I am dreaming but its soo real I feel like im in another dimension or something. I am usually with my family but sometimes meet people who have real features and personalities I can remember clearly till now.
The most common way I start a lucid dream is that I have a dream with in a dream. I will be having a normal dream then I would go to sleep in my dream and then suddenly Im having a lucid dream then when it ends I wake up into my previous dream but when I actual wake up I hardly remember the normal dream but fully remember the lucid one but the only thing about the normal dream I remember is going to sleep and waking up.
I went back to the year 1968 I was with 5 friends and I must of been running from a friend then I stopped because I was thinking why then everything stopped or went silent then suddenly we walked into a man he looked at us very very scared as if he saw a ghost he was dressed kind of normal a white man chubby probly in construction because he had a van I looked at the license plate and it was weird or just old it had 1968 on top of it I didnt want to tell my fiends so we just carried on walking but the man stood there watching us in absolute amazement in some frozen pose then I woke up into my normal dream which i dont remember. This was last year and still clearly remember where it was the weather what he my friend and I were all wearing.
Because it was very real it happened over year ago and I can still remember it over they thousands of dreams Ive had it was in a real location with real people the van Ive never seen in my life but it resembles and old van from those days the man didnt look the whole area looked back in time and im only 17 how would I know how an area I know today looked like then and since when do you have a dream in a dream i thinks its somehow paranormal
I’ve had lucid dreams, but what always happens is that as soon as I realize I’m in one, it starts to disintegrate and I wake up quickly. I have very little time to experiment with it.
Is it possible to have the same dream again, or have a dream that is almost like the dream they want to repeat, through lucid dreaming. I know lucid dreaming is when a person is aware that he/she is dreaming and thus control his/her dream, but if a person wants to repeat a dream that they have had in the past, could they do it through lucid dreaming, or at least put themselves in the environment of the past dream they want to repeat, through lucid dreaming, so that they could guide the dream to be as close as possible to dream they are trying to repeat?
